Insurance Business
The study in this specialization, which belongs to the authorized study program Banking, started at BICB during academic year 2002/2003.
The program of Insurance is in particular aimed at education of workers of insurance business, bank workers, who are responsible for the offer of bancassurance and insurance products as well as workers of the financial sector, brokerage companies, of insurance dealers, liquidators of insured accidents. It also offers familiarization with new knowledge of work methods and forms. Its aim is to prepare qualified specialists, who have acquired specific knowledge and skills necessary for providing skilled activities in insurance and financial spheres. This study program is suitable for workers of other (non-financial) areas, which cooperate with abovementioned institutions, or eventually work on positions responsible for this field.
Aim of the study and graduate profile
The aim of the bachelor study program Insurance Business is educating highly qualified specialists in insurance industry, who are not only able to successfully deal with insurance and financial products, but also to overview the informational statistics, mathematical and financial processes in insurance companies and administrative bodies accredited to supervise the insurance industry. The graduates are familiarized with and skillful in understanding processes in current situation of insurance market as well as its development both in the Czech Republic and the unified market of European Union. They understand its legal setting as well.
CR being a new member of the EU opens a new era for insurance industry. Insurance companies seated in the member countries are allowed to carry out their activities in the CR and vice versa. These activities bear on the right to set up affiliates and to offer services keeping to the principle of “a single passport”. Its legal basis lies on the principle that the right to offer insurance services granted in one country is valid in all the member countries of the Union. Insurance industry’s entry to the unified European territory will inevitably increase the demand for perfectly prepared insurance experts.
The main trait of the bachelor insurance program graduate is his/her characteristic of a complex insurance expert. S/he is solid, familiarized with the specialization, able to overview possibilities offered by interior and unified European insurance market, and is able to practically realize insurance products on high professional and social levels. It is made possible by his/her vocational preparation in all specializations of the insurance industry, in insurance mathematics, economics, insurance law, informatics, and by his/her sales skills. Graduates’ main characteristics are self-reliance, go-aheadativeness and communications skills.
The graduate becomes a worker, who acquired general and vocational knowledge and is qualified for working in trading positions in the area of insurance industry and dealing with insurance products. S/he has acquired deep knowledge of insurance business and the whole insurance market. S/he is knowledgeable about the scope of banking and finance sector. S/he is able to reach synergic effects through combination of banking and insurance products. Integral part of his/her education was a foreign language, which will enable him/her to study foreign vocational sources as well as trade communication. S/he has developed high quality client communications and staff managing skills.
S/he is ready to manage varied trade and managerial activities connected with business in interior economy as well as in foreign contacts. S/he is prepared to do these activities on high professional and social levels as required by insurance companies and the legal framework of insurance industry for offering insurance services.
Conditions and study organization
The bachelor study program Insurance Business overall lasts for 6 semesters.
The study is structured as follows:
the study of theoretical basis (1st year)
vocational study (starting from 2nd year)
The study is realized in daily and combined forms. Students will make use of commonly available literature and manuals, specialized textbooks published by BICB and further study materials.
