Information Technology

The Information Technology program in the field of authorized specialization Banking started at BICB during academic year 2001/2002.
 
The program is oriented towards applicants coming from the broad public, especially for those interested in banking, finance and state administration. It concentrates both on vocational preparation of specialists taking care of information processing, database administration, and on preparation of workers, who are not specialists in informatics but are, in their managerial positions, responsible for information processing and data protection.

Aim of the study program and graduate profile

While studying, the students will acquire total view of informatics importance, of information systems in a business and the scope of information and data processing, which is a necessary basis of a modern manager’s work.
 
Typical activities that the graduate of the study form will professionally manage are: data processing in a company, database administration management, service of information systems, planning, management of information system projects, risk analyzing, and quality controlling (auditing) of informational systems.
 
The graduate of the program will become a worker, who has acquired general and vocational education necessary for expert and managerial positions in the area of information systems and data processing. S/he has a total view of informatics importance and of information systems in a company, of used information infrastructure and communications. S/he has acquired basic knowledge of information and data processing and of requirements modeling methods, which are important for future managers.
 
After graduating from the chosen specialization and passing the state final examination, the graduate will be prepared for work in the following professions:
 
Manager of Information Systems Projects – the graduate has acquired an overview of information technology usage importance for both managers and companies and s/he is able to control the introduction of information systems and technology projects as a fledged partner of external suppliers. The graduate may work as a project manager or a staff manager in SW firms or in the departments of informatics in any enterprise.
 
Auditor of Information Systems – the graduate has acquired overview of analyzing, modeling and data management as well as s/he is able to analyze risks and causes of malfunctioning of information systems and to evaluate means of protection and control of information systems quality as well as the quality of operation environment.  S/he may work as a designer, manager or auditor of information systems and may be responsible for quality of information systems projects.
 
Database Administrator – the graduate has acquired an overview of analyzing, modeling and administration of information systems; s/he may work in the area of implementation and controlling of information technology infrastructure and functioning of information systems at managerial, coordinating or controlling positions (as database or net-administrators etc.).

Conditions and organization of studies

The bachelor study program Information Technology lasts for 6 semesters.
 
The study is structured as follows:
 
the study of theoretical basis (1st year)
 
common vocational study (2nd year)
 
specialized vocational study (3rd year) – in accordance with a specialization program
 
The study is realized in daily and combined forms. Students will make use of commonly available literature and manuals, specialized textbooks published by BICB and further study materials.
